As part of our commitment to community and giving back, we have kicked off our new charity partnership with Whitelion by volunteering at the Sydney Bailout event hosted by UnLtd this year.
It was a different experience for our Creative Director Karen, who has been ‘locked up’ for the last three years and has spent the night being an inmate for this great cause. The experience of Whitelion’s Bailout is not something you forget in a hurry and everyone who goes through it comes out a changed person at the end, even if you already connected with the cause and feel that this is something that society should work together to change.
This year the whole team volunteered to help check the inmates through the system, make sure all their belongings were taken care of and helped them navigate ‘the system’ to have a great experience whilst collectively raising an amazing $140,000+ for Whitelion and the young people they work with.
As a future official business for good we have committed to providing 5% of our billable hours to pro bono work, deciding to concentrate on working with one organisation as this will help us have the most effective impact. Using our core skills to help Whitelion share their story provides opportunities for our team to shine, to do work that has significant meaning and that aligns with our manifesto.
When you introduce a giving back element to the work that you do it adds another layer of meaning to the time you spend in the office. Studies have shown that teams are more engaged with employers who commit to making the world a better place, and that’s certainly part of the focus at Underground Communications.
As well as volunteering for Whitelion, we’ll be working on future campaigns to help generate awareness of their services and the initiatives that they have established to help fund the essential work that they do.
