Well, actually, it probably is just another New Year blog post but without a resolution in sight.
I’m getting the vibe that 2014 was a particularly challenging year for many people, me included, but the main theme for the year was growth and learning. So many people I know were presented with adversity and triumphed, straggling over the finish line bruised but definitely not beaten, ready to take on 2015.
Something that has always been important to me is to maintain my own identity and do things my way (yes, there are plenty of people in my life who have made several choice comments about that personality trait!), even when I’ve seemed to get dragged into the flow of what others may decide. Maintaining just a small sense of your own identity can be enough to keep you on track with your goals, no matter how far away they seem to be.
This may seem incongruous for someone who is so focussed on community but, maintaining our individuality and staying true to our way of doing things allows us to be a much better contributor to the wider community. We bring new ideas, a fresh way of looking at different situations and we innovate. When you combine that with a true desire to make a difference you’ve got an explosive opportunity for people and businesses to come together, collaborate and create a new direction and purpose.
Think about the people and businesses you come across daily. Who stands out for you as being an innovator? They’re the ones who, even within the framework of this society that we’ve come to be, are able to put their own stamp on things through their authenticity. They’re the ones who will be shining brightly. But, don’t be like them. Be yourself! It’s not as scary as you think…
My hope for 2015 is to witness, and hopefully be involved with, an eruption of people who are doing things their way. So far the vibe is feeling good.
Happy New Year!
